The Orpheus is delighted to be part of this project which allows you the opportunity to experience the iconic 2014 film ‘Pride’ as you’ve never seen it before. Includes a live orchestra of 60+ and live choirs performing the Welsh and 80’s inspired score.
2024 marks the film’s 10th anniversary, and the 40th anniversary of the 1984-85 Miners’ Strike, which is the setting for this true story based in a Welsh mining village with strong LGBT connections.
Set in the summer of 1984, with the National Union of Mineworkers on strike. At the Gay Pride March in London a group of gay and lesbian activists decides to raise money to support the families of the stricking miners. But there is a problem. The Union seem embarrassed to receive their support.
But the activists are not deterred. They decide to ignore the Union and go direct to the miners. They identify a mining village in deepest Wales and set off in a minin bus to make their donation in person. And so begins the extraordinary story of two seemingly alien communities who form a surprising and ultimately triumphant partnership.
